Mental Health & Motivation in Sports: Interactive Workshop for Girls’ Self-Defence

Mental Health & Motivation in Sports

A dynamic and empowering self-defence training workshop was recently organised by Kamya Social Developmental Society in collaboration with the All Assam Karate Association, exclusively for young girls. The event was aimed at not only equipping participants with physical self-defence techniques but also fostering mental strength and resilience, especially in the context of sports and adolescence.

As part of this initiative, a specialised mental health session was conducted by the team from Mynd, led by  psychologists under Dr. Mythili Hazarika. Representing her in the session were Anushka Barua, Ankita Deka, and Aishwaryya Devi, who brought psychological expertise and compassion to the forefront of this workshop.

Session Highlights:

  • Understanding stress and mental health challenges during adolescence
  • Insights into motivation in sports and the role of mental wellness
  • Techniques for stress management in sports and beyond
  • Encouraging an all-round mindset for growth and emotional regulation

Held exclusively for female participants, the session was structured to complement the self-defence training, providing a much-needed space for reflection, relaxation, and discussion.

Engagement and Impact:

With an enthusiastic turnout of 50 to 60 participants, the session was highly interactive. The young attendees shared their thoughts, participated in the activities with keen interest, and expressed how relaxing and rejuvenating the session felt—especially after the intense physical training earlier in the day.

Participants were deeply invested in the discussion and expressed a strong desire to engage in more such sessions in the future. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many calling it a much-needed and eye-opening experience.

The Mynd team was delighted to be part of such a progressive initiative focused on empowering girls not just physically but mentally as well. This collaboration marks a significant step in integrating mental health education into sports and self-defence training, encouraging holistic development among young minds.
