Visit To Old Age Home – Mental Health Week 2025

As a part of the Mental Health Week celebration, our team visited a women’s old-age home. We were warmly welcomed by the residents, who were very kind, cheerful, and eager to participate in the session.
The program began with a short and simple introduction on Mental Health and the importance of World Mental Health Day, presented in a way that was easy for everyone to understand. Our supervisor further interacted with them, making the session light-hearted and comfortable.
To make the atmosphere lively, we began with an ice-breaking clapping activity, where they followed fun prompts such as clapping to the left, right, up, and down. This helped energise everyone and capture their attention.
Next, we conducted a memory activity, where the participants were shown a few pictures and later asked to recall as many as they could. Many of them enjoyed the challenge and were excited to share their answers. Small chocolates were distributed as tokens of appreciation.
After that, our supervisor initiated a friendly conversation about common concerns like forgetfulness, mood changes, and sleep issues. We then divided the group and conducted brief assessments based on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) to understand their cognitive functioning. It was observed that many participants showed signs of mild cognitive impairment, and a few displayed early symptoms of dementia.
Towards the end, the participants shared their daily struggles, such as body pain, sleep disturbances, and emotional issues. Plans were made for a follow-up visit so that the psychiatrist could provide medical guidance where needed.
The visit concluded with a heartfelt exchange — the residents expressed their gratitude and honoured our supervisor with a Gamosa and Japi, marking the end of a meaningful and insightful day.
